The Story: The Spirit of Sport Awards is, basically, what it says : a sports awards show organised annually by the Sport Company of Trinidad and Tobago to recognise the achievements of the local and regional sporting talent. Produced by Lonsdale Saatchi & Saatchi from 2011 to 2013, it had me heavily involved in the show’s conceptualisation, as well as its production. I was traditionally responsible for all onscreen content (motion graphics, category intros, special features, visuals for performances).
The 2013 theme was Forged from the Love – the line taken from Trinidad & Tobago national anthem – and standing for everything local, communal, grassrootsy, close to home and family.
For the intros of the 12 broadcast categories of the show, my team produced a series of 1 minute long vignettes. Every video explored an area of Trini life, character or relationship – the familiar, relatable experiences that make Trinidadians who they are as a people, and the every-day love that forges the strongest men and women into world-class athletes.
Below are 4 vignettes of the 12, covering several genres we went for, – lyrical, humorous, philosophical.
Medium: I was responsible for art-directing and editing these videos into a compelling, engaging series. Shot by a small freelance team on locations around Trinidad and Tobago, and soundtracked by songs of various local artistes.
