Trinidead

Trinidead is a psychological thriller set in modern day Trinidad. On the one hand, it has the charm and humour of a tight-knit coastal community of Big Little Lies; on the other, it centres around an enigmatic female protagonist with a dark past, not unlike The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo. I have spent most of my twenties in Trinidad and Tobago, which had a considerable influence on the person and storyteller I am today, and remains my second home to this day. Although my book is very much a work of fiction, I have used my experience, and the many stories I have heard or lived through myself, to inform my writing.

“Once you give your heart to Trinidad, you can never leave.”

That’s the assertion Harvey Pryce — a gregarious British academic in his sixties — opens this story with. Following the divorce from his wife of thirty years, he comes to the Caribbean seeking a fresh start and soon finds himself living the dream: beach, Carnival, a slew of beautiful young friends. Among them are Miles and Pete, the charming new couple next door. Oblivious to the disturbing nature of the pair’s relationship or their true mission on the island, Harvey ushers them into his social circles without hesitation. But as we slowly get to know Miles and Pete for who they really are, Harvey’s opening promise begins to sound more and more like a warning…
